WORLD BOOK NIGHT
Alongside Canongate CEO Jamie Byng, Jaz helped to create the very first World Book Night, a national celebration of reading where books are given out across the UK to those who don’t regularly read. Working with prisons, hospitals, care homes and homeless shelters, as well as the general public, World Book Night is responsible for putting millions of books into millions of hands and spreading the joy of reading.
Jaz assisted in the organisation, distribution and marketing of the event while being the main point of contact for the 20,000 people who applied to give away copies of their favourite book from a list of 20 carefully selected titles.
The evening was marked by an event in Trafalgar Square hosted by Graham Norton. Authors joined well known readers on the stage including Allan Bennett, Philip Pullman, Margaret Atwood, Mark Haddon, Sarah Waters, Nick Cave, Suggs (Graham McPherson), Monica Ali, John LeCarré, Tracy Chevalier, DBC Pierre, Rupert Everett, Edna O'Brien, Lemn Sissay, Hayley Atwell & Stanley Tucci.
World Book Night is now an annual event taking place in April each year.
