The People Speak began life as a documentary project inspired by the American historian Howard Zinn and developed by the writer and academic Anthony Arnove, The People Speak presents history as told by those who do not appear in the history books.

Anthony Arnove and Colin Firth published a book of The People Speak with Canongate, a compilation of speeches, letters and songs from the visionaries, dissenters, rebels and everyday folk who took on the Establishment and stood up for what they believed in.

We launched the book with a series of events featuring Ian McKellan, Rupert Everett, Emily Blunt, Juliet Stevenson, Omid Djalili, Colin Salmon, Celia Imrie and Noel Clarke
